yep, because we all love chicken, and also, domestic violence in our communities, at it’s staggering rates is fucking hilarious. “omg, chicken+dv, LOLZ, let’s make a meme.” did y’all know that “Black females experienced domestic violence at a rate 35% higher than that of white females, and about 22 times the rate of women of other races.” (from the NCADV) i am not amused and reblogging this shit without any meaningful commentary is collusion.
Was this supposed to be funny? Like… this doesn’t even look like a meme. Its just looks like a terrible idea…

new wave feminism: One more thing, while we're on the subject. -
If someone were, in fact, to say that colorism has nothing to do with the way those politics-of-respectability folks talk about Beyonce’s pregnancy, I would ask that person to name me one dark-skinned woman who has been held up in…
Schools have classes called “women’s studies,” and “African-American literature” because the standard for existence set by white men has yet to be rescinded in this age. “Normal” history is the history of a certain class of white people, from the perspective of men. All the other histories are precisely that: other. —

I think being a feminist means that you see the world whole instead of half, it shouldn’t need a name, and one day it won’t. Feminism starts out being very simple. It starts out being the instinct of a little child who says ‘it’s not fair’ and ‘you’re not the boss of me,’ it’s something in us who knows that…and it ends up being a world view that questions hierarchy all together. — Gloria Steinem, Gloria: In Her Own Words (via hellblazers)

I’m a student at Williams College. (who is now saddened by the fact that the hi-my-name-is-Maya-and-I-go-to-this-really-small-private-school-that-most-people-have-never-even-heard-of- intro is my go to only form of introduction). But, anyway, I’m really into makeup, fashion, shoes, and I’M LYING. I wear whatever looks good on me and the two times that I wore eyeliner (my Sweet 16 and Prom) my hyperactive tear ducts washed away any evidence that this weapon of mainstream femininity ever even attacked my naturally beautiful face in the first place. Outside of my awkward, once-in-a-blue-moon interactions with makeup, I’ll mostly be blogging about films, photography, and my feminist take on pop-culture. I’m a contributing writer at Urbane Perspective Magazine, and I love spicy food, sports, meeting new people (and going off on tangents…)
Okay! So I was always a little skeptical about Tumblr. My friends’ reblogging of ‘cuddly kittens’ and a recap of why “[their] life is average” just wasn’t cutting it for me. But, while looking up (read as stalking) some of the young, talented and generally awesome (and of course female) filmmakers of my generation… I came to the realization that Tumblr is a great blogging space. It’s format is perfect for film reviews and judging by all the internship applications that have a convenient spot for the Tumblr that I didn’t have… I decided to make one. So, here it is!
